GENERAL BOARD MEETING MINUTES

FEBRUARY 24, 2011

The February meeting was called to order by President Anderson.

 Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

 Moment of Silence.

 Roll of Officers took place.  All present.

 A motion to dispense of the reading of the last months minutes was made by Lori Warren.  A second by Mike Hoffman.  Motion passed.

 Financial report was presented by Treasurer Cockrell.  A motion to accept the financial report was made by Lori Warren.  A second by Camille Waller Motion passed.

 COMMUNICATIONS

 President Anderson read a letter from the National Union.  This correspondence discussed the importance of the labor movement and asked each local to contribute to the national COPE fund.

 OFFICERS REPORT

 Vice-President Warren- met with Von Huffaker and Russ Atkins to discuss the staffing needs in Power Delivery.

 Treasurer Cockrell-  Hammerman, Graf, and Hughes had completed the financial audit.  Also, Trustee Dan Geers and Trustee Perry Hill performed an internal audit required by the bylaws.

 Secretary Kowolonek- presented different venues for the April General Membership meeting.  These were discussed. 

 Delegate Fischer- discussed concerns in the Surveyor group.  He had received a call from Harold Glories.  They would get together at a later time.

 Delegate Memering-  discussed situation in the LIT group. 

 Delegate Hoffman- discussed 2 grievances that are going to second stage.

 UNFINISHED BUSINESS

 Each member was sent a copy of a Local 600 Newsletter.  Except for few mistakes,  there has been positive feedback.

 Grievance 311(Contractors at Duke Energy)- The company contacted the Union about 10 or so C&D contractors that they are planning on outsourcing.  We told the company that these jobs would be subject to the LMEC process.

 President Anderson asked the Delegates to decide among themselves about which reps would report to which delegate.  He would like to have this list sent to him.

 NEW BUSINESS

 President Anderson discussed forming a new committee.  This committee would be the Young Workers Committee.  It would be chaired by Dan Geers.  It would be an avenue for new members to become involved with the Union. 

 UEIP- notification of the UEIP would be sent by email.  The annual bonus would be on the March 11th check.  It has a payout of 1.83% for the members who stayed with the original pension and a payout of 4.65 % for all members in the cash balance plan.

 President Anderson and Vice-President Warren discussed the creation of new jobs that was supposed to come with AMI.  They attended a meeting with the company where they were told that a pilot program was being developed to have some of these jobs done in Manilla.   President Anderson sent a letter to the company along with a copy of their press release announcing these new jobs.  His letter asked why stimulus money was being used to create jobs overseas.  He was contacted by the company and told that they were looking into his questions.  We may file a grievance on this situation.

 President Anderson, Vice-President Warren, and Secretary Kowolonek attended a conference in Columbus to discuss SB5.  There were ideas discussed about how to defeat this bill that attacks public unions.

 President Anderson, Vice-President Warren, Delegate Waller, and Delegate Hoffman attended a rally against SB in Columbus. 

 The Union receive a letter from the National Union about the Election Challenge.  In the letter, the National dropped all of the charges.

 President Anderson asked each Delegate that if they receive instructions from him,  that they let him know they got that information.

 A motion to adjourn was made by Lori Warren.  A second by Walt Dobbins.  Motion passed.
