GENERAL BOARD MEETING MINUTES July 28, 2011 Executive Board Jim Anderson-President Lori Warren-Vice President Shirley Cockrell-Treasurer Steve Kowolonek-Secretary Delegates Patty Memering DL Wallace Camille Waller Walt Dobbins Steve Fischer Mike Hoffman
The Pledge of Allegiance took place. DL Wallace was sworn into the office of Delegate Area B by Secretary Kowolonek. A moment of silence was taken for past members. Roll Call was taken by Treasurer Cockrell. All present. Secretary Kowolonek read the previous months minutes. A motion to accept was made by Shirley Cockrell. A second by Patty Memering. Motion passed. Treasurer Cockrell presented the Financial Report. A motion to accept was made by Lori Warren. A second by Mike Hoffman. Motion passed. Grievance #311- Contractor Grievance- There was discussion about this grievance and the upcoming arbitration. Local 600 Attorney Julie Ford was involved in the discussion via teleconference. Grievance #331- NSCC Performance Measures- This grievance was presented to the board for arbitration. The board voted to take this case to arbitration. COMMUNICATIONS Social Security & Medical Fact Sheet- This communications were given to each delegate to be placed on Union Boards. If someone would like one, please contact President Anderson and he will get one to them. Aubrey Rose Foundation- The Union received a letter of gratitude from the charity for the recent donation. Student Certification- Notification was sent by the Company reminding employees with college-aged children to certify that they are in college. This must by done to keep benefits for them. NSCC letter- The Company sent the Union notification about procedural changes within the NSCC. It deals with how calls are handled. PICNIC COMMITTEE The picnic committee presented different venues where the annual Local 600 picnic could be held. It was decided that the picnic would take place at the Grove in Hartwell. It was also decided that children and grandchildren of union members would be welcomed to attend. The picnic will take place on September 30th. OFFICIER’S REPORTS Secretary Kowolonek- Secretary Kowolonek and Delegate Memering attended a SB5 kickoff conference in Columbus. He discussed the strategy that would be used in the upcoming election and how the state union wanted the local unions to be involved. Delegate Memering- discussed a grievance where work was being performed that was outside of the job description. Delegate Hoffman- discussed a uniform situation dealing with footware. President Anderson informed him that steel-toed boots were not required for this situation. Treasurer Cockrell- discussed situation concerning the reverse stock split on Duke and Progressive stock. NEW BUSINESS National UWUA Convention- At the convention, President Anderson was reelected to the National UWUA Board. Secretary Kowolonek presented the invocation and also spoke on behalf of Resolution 19. Delegate Area B election- DL Wallace won the election. President pay- Starting July 1st, the Union became responsible for paying a larger portion of the President’s pay. The Union is still trying to discuss this with the Company. Grievance # 327 - the grievant declined to present this grievance for arbitration. Grievance dropped. Internal Audit- On July 7th, Union trustees performed an internal audit. The trustees are Chairman Dan Geers, Jenny Karr and Perry Hill. They found everything in order. Beckjord Closing- President Anderson discussed the power plant closing January 1st, 2015. Young Worker’s Committee- Dan Geers made a presentation about the Young Worker’s Committee. He is on a national committee for this. He would like to see more members become involved with the local union. He presented ideas that he had to do this. Steve Kowolonek made a motion that Dan Geers present a letter to the board to mail out to each member. DL Wallace seconded that motion. After discussion, motion passed.\ Steve Kowolonek made a motion to adjourn. A second by Walt Dobbins. Motion passed.
