GENERAL BOARD MEETING MINUTES May 26, 2005

The May Board Meeting was called to order by President Anderson.
Roll call was completed by Treasurer Mike Hiltenbeitel.
OLD BUSINESS
The Department of Labor sent Local 600 the exit letter which President Anderson read, and will read at the membership meeting.
Treasurer Hiltenbeitel was unable to give a complete treasurers report. He indicated that the books do not match the checking account. Treasurer Hiltenbeitel has looked at all the financial records and nothing shows that money is missing. Treasurer Hiltenbeitel has since given the books to the accounting firm of Eddy and Haynes to sort through. According to the treasurer we will probably be audited again in the future. President Anderson said that treasurer Hiltenbeitel has been putting in a lot of time and effort in learning the job of treasurer.
NEW BUSINESS
President Anderson announced that the two members that were coming in to present their grievances to the board would not be attending the board meeting. Vice President Stamper presented both cases in their behalf. The board voted not to take either case to arbitration.
Smith Barney will be at the membership meeting to give a presentation regarding retirement.
President Anderson informed the board of the thirty thousand dollar bond, that was obtain for the general board; this was one of the recommendations from the Department of Labor.
There was discussion on the Duke Energy merger and how it might impact our union. The National has lawyers researching the merger, once the report is completed President Anderson will get a copy. According to the national, either the local or the national can intervene. The IBEW of Pittsburg has a lawsuit regarding their pension changes. In the past Duke has turned their retirement into a cash balance plan.
The board also discussed the annual union picnic, tentative location is Hartwell. A vote was taken to allow the picnic committee to have final say on the arrangements.
